Happy Tails

Successful stories of adoption at Juneau Animal Rescue

Happy Tails - Oso, Mango & Ollie

What’s better than one furry companion to cuddle with? Three! Ollie, 15 yrs. old, a flame point Siamese, Mango, 4 yrs. old, a domestic shorthair, and Oso, 8 yrs. old, master of his domain, the big Maine Coon, live their life in comfort nestled away on comfy couches in the heart of the valley. Garry and his daughters Tasha and Val have welcomed these three characters into their home and couldn’t be happier.

Garry and his daughters have always loved cats and dogs, but with their active lifestyle, Garry knows that the family isn’t yet ready to have a home full of dogs, but can welcome cats into their lives. Ollie, was adopted from JAR in 2010, Mango, in 2015, and Oso, in 2016. Both Ollie and Oso were left at the shelter when their families moved, and they aren’t sure of Mango’s story. However, Garry feels very strongly about being a forever family for his pets and could never imagine leaving behind a pet, even when faced with challenges.

As happens, each cat has chosen their human. Mango is Val’s little cat dog. She follows Val everywhere, watching over her, curious what she’s up to. Tasha’s cat, Ollie, the beautiful Siamese, loves nothing more than to sit on the back of the couch and watch the world through the window. Not only have they each chosen their humans, but Ollie and Mango have a special bond. They love to play with each other and snuggle, and they sometimes even groom each other affectionally.

Oso, Garry’s cat, could be a dog! Weighing in at over 20lbs, roughly the size of a Cocker Spaniel, Oso is very vocal, curious, adventurous, and loves to be where you are. A bit more independent, he loves to hang out on the balcony that overlooks their backyard. He even occasionally explores the garden, but likes to return to the comfort of the couch quickly.  Oso will sleep on your shoes, watch movies with you, and likes to sing to you when you’re in the shower. All three of the cats love to play with each other, chasing lasers and cat toys, and they all love to roll in and smell their catnip!

One of Garry’s favorite things about Oso is how vocal he is, and how he demands to be pet. He could sit there forever being pet, but if you stop, he’ll likely pull your hand back for more. Both Tasha and Val love that their cats follow them everywhere and like to snuggle at night. All of them appreciate that their special pets provide unconditional love and companionship.

Garry has adopted 5 cats over the years from JAR, and each has lived out their lives in a comfortable, loving, and welcoming home. Their family has more than enough love to give and wants to welcome as many pets into their home as possible. Garry wants everyone to know that adoption is not a difficult process and is well worth the joy and love it brings to your life. He also feels that adoption is bittersweet – only because while you’ve found a special match for yourself, it’s impossible for one family to provide homes to all the animals in need. But, he encourages others to adopt, and he’s sure that when they’re able, they’ll return to JAR to bring even more love into their family.
