MEET THE BOARD MEMBERS:

Jodi Neil
BoaRD PRESIDENT
I am honored to serve as the President of the JAR Board of Directors, and look forward to continuing the great work the board does for the animals and community of Juneau. As a mom to four rescue animals (dog, cat, Russian tortoise, Leopard gecko), two of whom came from JAR, I am thrilled to be able to give back to the animals and help support the amazing folks at JAR and within our community who do so much to create positive impacts in the lives of these animals.

bOARD vICE pRESIDENT
I joined the JAR board in hopes of giving back to the community and animals that have always opened their heart to everyone or everything.  I look forward to working with the incredible staff at JAR to help all animals in need and continue to give back to the community that's been so amazing to me.

"I have been very fortunate to have shared my life with so many wonderful animals.  Our pets are here to comfort us and to love us, and it really is not too much to ask that in return we care for an protect them." - Betty White

Meredith Trainor
Treasurer
Meredith Trainor joined the Juneau Animal Rescue board in 2023 as a way to pay forward all the compassionate support, excellent advice, and wisdom that fellow executive directors, other nonprofit leaders, and community members provided to her as she set down roots in Juneau and Southeast, and to help advocate for the continued protection and well-being of some of her favorite non-wild Alaskan critters.

Karen Carey
SECRETARY
Karen Carey moved to Juneau in 2016 to serve as Provost at the University of Alaska Southeast.  She served as Chancellor from 2020 to 2023 when she retired. Karen has 3 dogs and a cat, Wavy, that she adopted from JAR. She loves Juneau, rain, and pets of course.

eXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (ec)
mEMBER AT lARGE

Juneau is fortunate to have such kindhearted staff at JAR. Caring for animals has always been a part of my life. It makes me pleased to join an organization that is so dedicated to the care of our furry (and feathered) friends. It is my hope that we can continue to provide a safe space for animals for years and years to come.

Kevin Ritchie
MEMBER AT LARGE
I moved to Juneau in 1977 to work for the City and Borough of Juneau as an Assistant City Manager and later City Manager until 1992.  I believe that how a community treats its animals is a measure of its compassion.

mEMBER AT LARGE
I joined the board in 2023, JAR's 60th year of caring for Juneau's animals and finding them permanent shelter in our homes and hearts. I am beyond excited to be working with the board, staff, and community to build a new shelter facility that will vastly improve the lives of the animals in JAR's care and expand essential services for local pet owners.

Charli Covey
MEMBER AT LARGE
My love for animals, especially dogs, has always been a driving force in my life. I joined the Juneau Animal Rescue Board to help advance thoughtful, compassionate animal welfare work that serves both pets and the people who care for them in our Juneau community and all over SE Alaska .

Mari Meiners
MEMBER AT LARGE
I’ve lived in Juneau since 1994 and have served on the Board since 2018, currently as Secretary. I love animals of all kinds.  I joined the Board so I could serve the community and promote the health and welfare of Juneau’s pet population.
Picture
Kallen Hoover
Member at Large
Kallen was born and raised in Juneau and joined the JAR board after many years of fostering animals. She is thankful for the fantastic employees at JAR who so effortlessly better the lives of all the animals in our community but especially those going through big life transitions. She joined the board to further support JAR’s impact on our community in continuing to improve and expand services. Like her dogs she loves running, sunshine and getting out on the water when weather permits.

Kim Raum-Suryan
MEMBER AT LARGE
Animals have been a constant source of love and joy in my life, and I am deeply honored to be on the JAR board. We currently share our home with three dogs and two cats, and we have fostered many other animals through the years. We especially like adopting senior animals. I am incredibly excited to help JAR fulfill its mission, especially as we work toward a new shelter facility that will allow us to serve even more animals in our community.

Michael LeVine
MEMBER AT LARGE
As a new Board member, I am looking forward to supporting JAR's mission and giving back to all the animals that have provided me so much joy, warmth, and laughter. Kusko, the canine companion in my picture, is a goofy, smart, escape artist of a puppy. I'll use his good cheer to guide my contributions to JAR.
