DAILY OPERATIONS:
Rabies & Microchip Clinic have resumed. Every Tuesday from 2pm to 5pm (last check-in at 4:45pm); see our Rabies & Microchip Clinic page for details and social distancing safeguards.
Due to continued risk from COVID-19, Juneau Animal Rescue will be closed to public entry until further notice. Minimal essential staff are on hand to tend to the animals in our care and emergencies. Juneau Animal Rescue senior staff can be reached by voicemail and email.
JAR is excited to announce the opening of our WALK-UP WINDOW for clients! This window allows us to better serve our clients while safeguarding both the public and our employees. The WALK-UP WINDOW is staffed from 9:30 - 5:30 Monday through Saturday to answer your questions, respond to messages, and provide limited sales of pet food and equipment by phone for curbside pickup. Face to Face contact is minimized by use of our WALK-UP WINDOW and added safety protocols, so please follow all staff instructions. We appreciate your cooperation!
Juneau Animal Rescue has resumed our Doggy Daycare, Overnight Boarding services, with additional safety measures in place. Curbside pickup and drop-off are still available for Boarding and Doggy Daycare Monday – Saturday; 9:30 am – 5:30 pm. Please call 789-0260 for more information. Our public grooming services, public visitation, and volunteer program will remain closed until further notice.
If an animal is in imminent danger, continue to call 789-6997. Animal Control Officers will continue to respond to emergencies. Calls for animal control services that do not require an animal control officer to physically respond will be handled online or over the telephone. Services from Juneau Animal Rescue’s Animal Control are still available, but in a limited capacity.
WE ARE STILL ADOPTING VIA EMAIL AND TELEPHONE. Those interested in adopting should see our available animals HERE and submit adoption applications to our Kennel Director at kennel@ghspets.org. Since visitation is not open, we are arranging meet and greets outdoors with dogs prior to adoption. Cats and small animals can be fostered for a few days to see if the animal is a good fit for adoption in your family.
We do not currently have a large fostering need, but that may change in the coming weeks and months. If you are interested in fostering an animal during this time, please fill out our foster application HERE. Due to the large outpouring of applicants, we will not be responding to generic fostering applications, but will contact you should we need your help.
Furthermore, we are asking that the public only surrender animals in emergency situations until further notice to allow us to make shelter services available to individuals and families who are in need. This will help ensure that Juneau Animal Rescue resources are there for those individuals in emergency situations with no other resources to assist with the care of their animals.
If you are fortunate enough to be weathering these times well and would like to support Juneau Animal Rescue and our important work, I encourage you to please make a contribution to help us continue our efforts to help animals and pet owners in need.

NOT JUST AN ANIMAL SHELTER
Juneau Animal Rescue is not just an animal shelter.
We provide many animal related services that both help our pet loving community and help generate income to further our mission.
WHO IS JUNEAU ANIMAL RESCUE?
Juneau Animal Rescue is a private, non-profit shelter, located in Juneau, Alaska. Our shelter was founded in 1963 by members of our community who collaborated to help disadvantaged and homeless animals. We are proud to have served domestic animals in Juneau and its outlying communities for over 55 years. Although we are also contracted to perform Animal Control and Protection Services by the City and Borough of Juneau, we are not a government entity. We continue to rely heavily on the generous contributions from the public in order to sustain our honored tradition of serving animals in need in our community. It is through these contributions that Juneau Animal Rescue has been able to endure and care for animals in need successfully throughout its many years.
Our animal shelter began as a small shed under the bridge over Gastineau Channel. While we will always be proud of those humble beginnings, our new name and logo more accurately convey the community spirit of the organization that has served Juneau’s animal population since 1963. In January 2019 we changed our name to Juneau Animal Rescue, hoping to strengthen awareness of our organization and expand our public outreach. We are continually grateful for the generous support of the community and look forward to the next 50 plus years of service as Juneau Animal Rescue.
