Full Time Kennel Technician

​Animal Control Officer


JAR Kennel Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary facility for animals and people and providing humane handling and care for all shelter animals. Applicants should enjoy spending time with animals of all shapes and sizes and being outdoors year round in all types of weather. 

Job duties include:
  • Handling, training, care, feeding and cleaning of kennel areas.
  • Speaking with the public when they come to visit with our adoptable animals.
  • Applicants must be physically active, reliable, compassionate, and willing to learn and follow JAR protocols for cleaning, sanitation, animal handling, and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Experience with animals a plus but not required.

Kennel Technician Job Description
Juneau Animal Rescue is currently seeking a full-time Animal Control and Protection Officer. This position provides assistance and advocacy to animals in need, and enforces local laws and ordinances concerning the care, health, licensing, disposal, and impounding of animals.
​
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Conducts investigations and inspections regarding animal cruelty.
  • Issues warnings and citations and testifies in court regarding minor offenses and cruelty charges.
  • Educates the public about relevant animal regulations and humane animal care.
  • Routinely patrols designated areas enforcing local animal laws and ordinances.
  • Rescues stray, injured and nuisance domestic animals in the most safe and humane manner possible.
  • Administers emergency first aid to injured animals.
  • Arbitrates disputes between members of the public.
  • Coordinates efforts with other community professionals such as police officers, court officials, veterinarians, and other shelter advocates.
  • Prepares written investigative reports that may be introduced as legal court documents.
Paid time off and medical benefits available to full-time employees after 90-day probationary period, 401K available after one year. Pay D.O.E.

Animal Control Officer Job Description

Executive Director

The Position: Executive Director
Juneau Animal Rescue seeks a collaborative and experienced leader with a passion for animal welfare to serve as its next executive director. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable record of growing organizations through strong management, community relationship-building skills, and effective fundraising. Juneau Animal Rescue’s next executive director will lead the organization into its next phase of growth by working with the board of directors to secure funding for and oversee the planning and construction of a new state-of-the-art facility that will serve Juneau well into the future.
The Organization
For sixty years, Juneau Animal Rescue (JAR), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has dedicated itself to promoting animal welfare and strengthening the animal-human bond. Juneau Animal Rescue’s mission drives it to improve the lives of pets through education and protection and to shelter stray, abandoned and surrendered pets until they can be placed in loving homes. From humble beginnings in a small shed, JAR (originally known as Gastineau Humane Society) has grown into a robust nonprofit organization housed in its own facility. Juneau Animal Rescue is the only brick and mortar shelter in Juneau and the largest animal shelter in Southeast Alaska.
