Keeping the front of the facility looking clean and presentable has always been a challenge for the staff at Juneau Animal Rescue. Given the focus on keeping the many various animal kennels, play areas, and the rest of the facility clean and sanitary leaves less time to focus on the exterior parking area on a day to day basis. This is where the idea to replace the worn out ground cloth and aging bark with fresh ground cloth and 24,000 lbs of gravel came up.
The call went out to local service organizations and Juneau 58 Degree Innovators Rotary President, Kathryn Beers answered. Her amazing Club Service Coordinator, Jessica Warmbrodt organized an energetic group of 8 volunteers who stepped up to make a difference.
We had incredible weather, a motivated group, and lot's of cheerful work that transformed an overgrown messy front into a tidy attractive first impression for visitors. The transformation was incredible. In a short two hours the 24,000 lbs. of gravel had been distributed by wheelbarrow, raked, and put in place. They even found the energy to move a boulder!
Juneau Animal Rescue cannot thank the volunteers from Juneau 58 Degree Innovators Rotary enough for their amazing contribution of time and effort in making our shelter shine a little brighter.
